"Little Grebe Parenting" Part 7, the last nest I made without giving up

Updated: Aug 12, 2022

This blog introduces the breeding of little grebes in Inokashira Park and the struggle to raise children in 2017 with photos.

The new nest was built on a branch of a tree with foliage on July 16th.

A little grebe couple in Bentenike who lost all 6 chicks.

Instead of giving up, he tried to build nests in several places to breed.

They didn't work, and the last one I made was this nest.

The little grebe pair featured in "Little Grebe Child-rearing Observation Diary, 4" re-nested in the upstream and back of Benten Pond.

Eggs have already been laid in the nest.

A weak nest of water that is likely to sink soon.

Parent birds constantly reinforce their nests, but will they be in time?

If the eggs are not warmed, when the parent bird goes up to the nest, the weight will cause the nest to be nearly half submerged.

Still, the parent bird keeps warming the eggs.

Is it okay for the nest to sink again soon after it rains?

The branches of a tree with foliage, it bends and sinks greatly when it rains.

I'm worried.

Unfortunately, when I went to the site after a while, I was worried.

There were no traces of eggs along with the nest.

The parent birds around Shibara disappeared before I knew it.

Breeding this year seems to have given up.
