This blog introduces the breeding and child-rearing struggle of little grebes that bred in Inokashira Park in 2018.
The chicks who had been observing the previous year were wiped out. Let's see the whole story until the chicks grow up well this year! I started writing this blog.
Bentenike family where all five eggs hatched
■
On the morning of June 15th, I went to the clouds where it was almost raining.
Did the remaining eggs of Benten Pond, the chicks, hatch?
When I went to see it immediately, the last egg was hatching.
A small chick was struggling near the edge of the nest.
But I'm tired without power, is it okay?
A small chick that has just hatched, if you don't get into the feathers of the parent bird early, your body temperature will drop and you're likely to weaken.
Energetic chicks rush into their wings, and even if they fall into the water, they're sick.
Perhaps I can see it properly, even a newborn chick climbs straight up the nest.
The parent bird just looks at it and waits for it to enter the feathers.
Does it mean that the chicks that are dented here are dropped out?
Even if you struggle or struggle, you can't put it in your wings!
The newborn little chick tries hard to sneak into the feathers of her parent bird, but she can't climb one step further.
I've been exposed to the outside air for a while, so I wonder if my body gets cold and I can't get any strength.
Good luck, Chicks!
Even if the parent bird is aware of the chicks, it only spreads its wings to make it easier to climb, and does not help it climb with its beak.
After all, I couldn't get into the feathers until this parent bird was replaced.
"Please change soon!" Climb the nest and appeal. It seems that he wants to hold a chick
The parent bird holding the chick didn't seem to want to change, so it wasn't easy to change.
Are you tired of catching food, or do you want to rest in the nest, or do you want to hold a chick?
My partner doesn't change easily, so I appealed by getting on the nest saying "Please change quickly!".
"Please change soon!"
Hugging chicks on their backs and sides, and moving chicks may be comfortable for their parents.
Parents also seem to want to spend time with their children rather than trying hard to catch food.
When I was holding the egg, I was happy to take turns!
Is it a mother or a parent bird who finally lifted her heavy waist and responded to the change? 5 chicks on the nest
Finally, the parent bird accepted the change.
I thought it would go smoothly, but the Benten family was faced with trials after that.
This continuation will be carried over to the next time.
