This blog introduces the breeding and child-rearing struggle of little grebes that bred in Inokashira Park Tokyo Japan in 2018.
The chicks who had been observing the previous year were wiped out. Let's see the whole story until the chicks grow up well this year! I started writing this blog.
I caught a fish! July 29, Nanai
It's been over 10 days since I last updated.
Thank you to all the readers who read this blog.
A little while ago, I would like to introduce the situation at the end of July.

Little Grebe chicks in Inokashira Park,
As we approached the end of July, we were less likely to act together with our brothers day by day.
Recently, each chick often acts alone.
Most of the time, the behavior is in the territory where they were born and raised, but the curious chicks are expanding their range of activities.
Sometimes I cross bridges and often go out of the territory.
The meaning of territory may be different from before.
When the chicks were small, the parent birds had to bring as much food to the chicks as possible.
Now that each chick is trying to become independent, it is a place of adventure for chicks.
I remembered! I was born here! August 5 Benten
The fast-growing chicks have already grown to about the same size as their parent birds.
Large chicks look bigger than their parents.
From now on, you have to catch the bait yourself.
The wings will also come off, and the body will become tighter.
Some chicks are curiously moving around, but some chicks are still sticking to their parents and will not leave them.
Even chicks with the same parent bird have different sizes and personalities.
Also, it seems that parent birds also have a child's taste, and some children love it completely, while others leave it alone.
Does a male parent feel like leaving a male child alone and petting a female child?
From time to time, parents get a treat. Is the chick to be spoiled decided? July 29, gourd
At the end of July, one chick is found in Benten and one in gourd, which is sticky to its parents.
Is it the maternal instinct of the parent bird?
The parent bird also acts together without trying to leave the chick.
Thank you for chicks who are not good at catching food yet.
However, if the chick gets too close to the parent bird to spoil it, she will get angry.
If you show the parent bird that you are trying hard to dive and catch food, you will occasionally get a reward fish from the parent bird.
Is the parent bird urging the chicks to fish?
And do you teach how to fish?
The larger chicks are already able to catch their own fish.
Fishing is still a mess, so I try to dive over and over again until I catch a fish.
And finally, the top photo is the one that caught the fish.
As you gain more experience, your fishing skills will become better and better.
I couldn't swallow the fish I caught myself, so I grabbed it with my beak several times and finally swallowed it.
The chicks are steadily taking the first step towards independence.
We are one more person!
