`` Little Grebe Parenting, Sequel'' Part 4, Bonds of the couple

Updated: Aug 12, 2022

This blog introduces the breeding and child-rearing struggle of little grebes that bred in Inokashira Park in 2018.

The chicks who had been observing the previous year were wiped out. Let's see the whole story until the chicks grow up well this year! I started writing this blog.

The display after mating seems to confirm each other's bonds May 4th

Birds and couples have a very strong bond.

While many mammals are polygamous or promiscuous, many birds are monogamous.

It seems that there are many things that have been close to the couple for many years.

For most birds, the help of their father is essential until the chicks are safely independent from the eggs.

Food is needed while incubating, and once the chicks have hatched, they must protect their unprotected chicks and fill their stomachs with a strong appetite.

Depending on the species, only females incubate, but little grebes take turns warming eggs between males and females.

The photo above is a display that takes place after mating.

They look at each other and seem to confirm the bond, saying, "Let's do our best together!"

The little grebe couple was able to grow up to this point from the egg through the chick stage, thanks to the bonds and efforts of these parent birds, and they must have overcome many hardships so far.

And, what was inherited from the parent bird is about to be passed on to the next generation.

Everyone is empty-handed in the amazing and beautiful places of the wild.

We adapt to the environment as it is and make good use of it to live.

What can be said about all the creatures living on this earth now, the ones that have been handed down from ancient times to the present without interruption.

Wasteful things are stripped off and polished every day, and it is hard to find waste in nature.

Nature and the wild are stronger and wisdom than people think.

Fifteen minutes after taking the picture above, the little grebe laid its first egg at Inokashira Park this year (2018).

I didn't know it at all before, but I've been observing it, and recently I've been able to distinguish between male and female little grebes.

It's not because you see it, but because of the difference in behavior and behavior.

There is no confirmation, so I hope to make it somehow.

The photo above is male on the left and female on the right.

There seems to be a subtle difference in the yellow part at the base of the beak.

Based on the bond of this couple, can this couple raise their chicks safely this year?
