This blog introduces the breeding and child-rearing struggle of little grebes that bred in Inokashira Park in 2018.
The chicks who had been observing the previous year were wiped out. Let's see the whole story until the chicks grow up well this year! I started writing this blog.
This is the place where the little grebe nest and eggs were located until a few days ago, May 21st.
Inokashira Park visited on May 21 for the first time in 4 days after the turmoil of the spot-Billed turtle.
I can't find a little grebe nest near the gourd bridge.
The little grebe couple, who are thought to be the main, are wandering around the nest.
What happened?
■
There is something wrong with the nest
While I was warming the eggs, I thought that nothing would happen because the eggs were well protected, but it was a mistake.
The gourd family, the most secure little grebe nest, had no trace.
What exactly happened?
According to the story, it flowed away from the tree branch where the nest was fixed on Sunday morning.
Was the nest material not well fixed to the tree branches and was swept away by a strong wind?
I can't say anything because I haven't actually seen it, but it's sad anyway.
Some people tell me that they were killed by turtles. Last year, the chicks here were killed by turtles, so I thought it might be the case.
If an oversized soft-shelled turtle targets an egg, is there a countermeasure against the little grebe?
The Lord Grebe and his wife continued to cry sadly near the flowing nest.
I can't help feeling sad, but now I'm changing my mind and working hard to build a new nest.
And that place is the same place where I built a nest last year, where my husband wanted to build a nest.
In fact, my husband wasn't very enthusiastic about the location of the nest that had collapsed this time.
Do you even say, "I didn't say it!"
No, I wouldn't think of such a negative thing.
I'm sure you're seeing a brighter tomorrow than that dark past.
At dusk, two birds work together to rebuild the nest
The two birds worked together as if they were in a hurry, and they were nesting until late in the evening with almost no rest.
After diving, place the nest material on the place where you decided to create a new nest.
Over and over again, over and over again.
The couple's hearts seem to be completely united towards one goal.
This situation is summarized in the video. Little Grebe Parenting, Chapter 1 "Nest Making Without Giving Up"
How about a pair of Bentenike?
It seems that Bentenike's turn has finally decided on a nest.
It seems that the pair of Bentenike finally decided the location of the nest, but will it work?
The nest does not seem to be completed yet, but two eggs have already been laid.
I hear that the first egg has a poor nest and has been dropped.
One thing I'm curious about is the location of the nest.
There are many leaves on the fixed machine, and trees with leaves sink considerably under the weight when it rains.
Last year I saw a little grebe nest that failed, so I'm a little worried.
The failed pair is the Bentenike pair, and maybe the same pair.
The pair of Nanai Bridges are building nests here and there, but the location has not yet been decided.
