This blog introduces the breeding and child-rearing struggle of little grebes that bred in Inokashira Park in 2018.
The chicks who had been observing the previous year were wiped out. Let's see the whole story until the chicks grow up well this year! I started writing this blog.
Repeat mating again to prepare for spawning. May 25
Little Grebe has ruined both the nest and the eggs in incubation.
The nest I made after regaining my mind is almost complete.
Well, this time.
■
The place where the new nest was built was the second candidate for nesting.
Before choosing the place of failure, one of the pair, the husband, wanted this place.
Now that I failed in the first nest, I rebuilt the nest here again.
The same place where the nest was built last year. (Probably another pair)
The nest is still unfinished, and if you ride two birds, it will sink into the water.
Copulation is repeated so that eggs can be laid at the time when the nest is completed.
Seems to be in a hurry.
The first nest, collapsed just before the chicks changed, and the eggs were wiped out. It has been over a month late since the nest was rebuilt.
The reason for hurrying is that from early summer to summer, there is plenty of food and the days are long, so you can spend a lot of time fishing and catch more food.
The sooner the chicks can grow larger until early autumn.
That may be the reason for hurrying.
If the chicks get bigger, they will have an advantage over the little grebes around them.
Last year, the little grebe I was chasing was late in breeding, so it couldn't grow enough until early autumn, and the last chick disappeared as the typhoon passed.
Typhoons that often come in early autumn are also a big threat to chicks.
By the way, what about the aquatic life house?
The eggs are safe and the nest seems to be sturdy, will it hatch soon? Twice
Here, I have confirmed that 5 eggs have been laid, but only 4 can be seen.
Is it just hidden and invisible?
The parent bird may be hearing the sound heard from inside the egg.
It seems that he is checking the inside while playing with the egg with his beak.
The nest is further reinforced and there seems to be no fear of sinking or being washed away.
One concern is that there is a soft-shelled turtle shell drying area nearby.
Soft-shelled turtles may be waiting for the chicks to eat, holding back the drool.
Little Grebes also seem to be worried, and every time the turtle moves, they become more vigilant.
Soft-shelled turtle's line of sight is toward the little grebe
Parenting, like everywhere, seems unacceptable.
And a pair of Benten Pond.
The pair of Benten Pond, 4 eggs, and the nest have become quite solid. May 25
A pair of Bentenike, four eggs can be seen in the front.
It seems that two eggs were laid before I saw it.
The nest has been reinforced and the nest has become quite solid.
Most of the grebe nests and nest materials are picked up from water, and the specific density is heavier than water.
It sinks when left unattended, and constant reinforcement and replenishment seems to be the key to success.
When replenishment is repeated, the part on the water dries little by little, so the buoyancy also increases.
Finally, Nanai Bridge, what is the pair whose nest location has not been decided yet?
Is this the reason why I can't make a nest? Aodaisho, who is a master of swimming and hiding in the bush
Nanai Bridge's turn made many nests, but I wonder if they all abandoned them.
There seems to be some reason.
This place is near the bush, and it seems that snakes are messing around.
The figure of a rat snake that goes back and forth over the pond with a masterful swim.
Snake density that you will witness every time you go.
Including those hidden in the bush, there seems to be a considerable number.
Near the bridge, it's like a snake swimming course, just about to build a nest.
It is clear to everyone that breeding cannot be done in such a place.
Can you really find the location of the nest this time?
