"Little Grebe Parenting" Part 10, chicks hatching smoothly

Updated: Aug 12, 2022

This blog introduces the breeding and child-rearing struggles of little grebes in Inokashira Park in 2017.

The third chick with a cracked egg is about to hatch (the egg on the right), July 28, 11:49

As of July 28 (2017), one chick is satisfactorily hatching every day in each of the two nests from three days ago.

If this goes on, the third egg should hatch today.

I didn't notice it during the shoot, but later I looked at the photo and found a crack in the egg.

The beak came out of the egg, July 28, 12:24

Two chicks can be seen outside and in the middle of the nest, and the beak coming out of the egg can be seen to be that of the third chick.

If you zoom in on the photo above, you can see the beak of the chicks that are born.

For a short while the parent bird left the nest, I saw a chick's beak coming out of the egg.

In another nest (Nanai Bridge), chicks hatched smoothly and became 3 chicks.

One egg that has not yet hatched, with the faces of two chicks and one leg visible, July 28

In each nest, 4 eggs successfully hatched 3 chicks.

Tomorrow, the number of chicks will surely increase to four.

From now on, parent birds will be more and more busy raising children and it will be difficult.
