Migratory birds flapping to the world

Summer tradition, swallow

Swallows that seem to have been reduced in number compared to before.

They come from a far south island.

Urban modernization is progressing at a tremendous pace all over the world.

Still, they are strong and still flapping their wings.

How do they feel about the changes that have made good use of people's homes?

It will be highly adaptable.

Swallows come to Japan from the southern islands across the sea.

I'm impressed that such a small bird often crosses the ocean.

More than half of the birds found in Japan are migratory birds.

Since Japan is an island country, they all inevitably come across the sea.

I think a big bird will fly slowly.

Even small birds, such as warblers, that seem to be very weak will come over, so I'm afraid.

Some people can tolerate it even if they keep flying without drinking and eating for several days.

But why continue such a dangerous journey?

In any case, that's the way they've survived.

Probably because there was such a benefit.

Swallows that came to Japan breed here.

Japan has a long day at this time.

The length of the day does not change much around the equator.

The longer the day, the longer you can spend hunting.

That means that a lot of food can be caught.

The fact that chicks can be raised in a short time.

Migratory birds that come to Japan from the north in winter, they are more north, where they can benefit from longer days.

Parent birds are hard, so I have to work all the time.

The photo above is a swallow that devotes itself to carrying nest materials.

You probably found a good place to build a nest,

Going back and forth between the moist mud beside the pond.

Is it a blood relationship that is a mixture of young birds and elderly people?

Maybe last year's parent and child?

Carrying nest materials with the dumplings in the beak

Swallows found not only in Japan but also on the African continent.

The northern breeding grounds spend the winter in the warm African savanna.

Then, during the breeding season, cross the desert to the northern country.

The big movement of wildebeest is amazing,

It seems that the movement and scale of birds across the world are completely different.
