Goshawk vs. Crow, Conflict between species in the city

Updated: Aug 12, 2022

This time, I would like to talk about goshawks, who spent many days observing during their stay in Japan.

This article is written in Kenya.

In order for goshawks to expand their habitat in urban areas, they must come to terms with crows.

Last August, I blogged about the young goshawks that are becoming separated from their parents three times.

There was only one goshawk chick that left the nest, but it seems that there were originally three chicks.

However, due to the attack of the crow, the two chicks died without leaving the nest.

The nest that the goshawk used for breeding last year was originally made by a crow, and the goshawk hijacked it.

There are some crow's nests around the nest, but it cannot be bred near the goshawk.

If it weren't for the goshawk, some crow pairs would have been successful in breeding there.

For crows, I want to get rid of the goshawk that robbed me of my life.

Whether in the African savanna or in the coral sea, species are not stable and inhabited from the past to the future.

There is always a conflict between species over limited food and places.

It's a battle for strong, clever, and environmentally-adapted ones to survive.

Moreover, similar conflicts are occurring within the species.

Human subjectively, it will be a goshawk's enemy, the Nikki Crow.

However, for small birds such as the oriental turtle dove, which are the prey of goshawks on a daily basis, they are sure to support the crows while watching the battle between the goshawks and the crows.

The unpleasant crows who always harass me are also reliable at this time.

If you lose the conflict, you have to find another place.

Even if you look for another place, there aren't many good places without customers.

Therefore, we have to be desperate for each other.

A crow trying to attack from behind, did the goshawk sense a sign?

When a goshawk tries to look directly behind, he sometimes looks from top to back instead of from the side.

Is it a merit that you can keep watching the situation on the left and right without interruption? Is it because you can move your neck quickly? Is it because I can't turn my eyes? Is it limited to this solid?

Goshawk who launches an attack at the right timing

A goshawk that instantly calculates the speed, direction, and altitude difference of the enemy, or detects the movement of the opponent by the flight technique that is ingrained in the body and launches an attack.

For goshawks who have acquired the ability to hunt small birds, it may be before breakfast.

Goshawk that shrinks and protects itself from crow attacks

The flight performance of the goshawk is considerably superior to that of the goshawk, but depending on the conditions such as altitude difference and speed, the goshawk may be disadvantageous.

A goshawk who approaches while increasing the speed from the sky, wraps around once, and manages to dodge the attack of the crow that has risen at high speed.

There may be ace crows who are especially good at combat flight.

The battle with the crows continued for about 10 days every day, but maybe the crows were defeated, and since then they haven't set up much on the goshawks.

Even so, a large number of people sometimes come to attack.

This offense and defense will continue in the future.

to be continued
