"Urban Goshawks, Breeding Records" 29, Young Birds and Crows

Updated: Aug 11, 2022

"The story of a goshawk, a bird of prey that has advanced into the city Tokyo Japan"

This blog introduces the life of a goshawk, a wild drama that unfolded in front of the caretaker in an urban park in Tokyo from July 2017 to December 2018.

Staring contest with young birds

Three young birds that grow while learning various things every day.

This time, I will discuss the relationship with crows, which is inevitable for living in the city.

In order for these young birds to grow and successfully breed in the city, they must first learn how to capture crows.

If you can't capture the crows, even if you live in the city, you can never leave offspring.

It will be difficult to find the meaning of living in wild animals that cannot leave offspring.

Relationships with crows that cannot be avoided in the city.

Until recently, Crow reigned as the boss of this area.

And the goshawk who robbed the crow of the position of the king and now reigns as the king of this area.

A crow who has hardly approached the young birds for a while after the chicks left the nest.

After mid-July, crows began to challenge the goshawks.

The reason why crows haven't come to the goshawk forest until now is probably because the crows themselves were busy raising children and the eyes of the goshawk's father were scary.

It seems that the crows have been able to afford to raise their children, perhaps because their chicks have finished fledging.

Perhaps the goshawk's dad dared to loosen his eyes on the crows to train his children.

Crows who came to the forest of Otaka

The chasing after the brothers was active.

However, I have never chased after a crow, and the young goshawks know little about crows.

The three young birds were initially frightened by the approaching crows, "What, those black guys!"

Frightened, he observed the movements of the crows who were constantly approaching.

The crow also observed the goshawk for a while.

After observing for a while, the three goshawks began to lick when they were young and not very dangerous.

The black bird chasing after, the ability to fly does not seem to be a big deal

The big black birds that are unknown to us are persistently attached to us, so we cannot help the young goshawks to escape.

At first, young birds fleeing with fear.

After running away for a while, the goshawk realized that the crows were chasing much slower and slower than their brothers, who were always chasing them.

"What, it's late!" "Chase faster!"

"Even if you chase after me at such a speed, it's not worth running away!"

The crows should be desperately speeding up, but they are far below the speed of the young goshawks.

Chased by a crow, he once escaped into the forest

A young goshawk that once escaped into the forest.

It seems that the flight characteristics of young goshawks and crows have been understood to some extent.

This time, I turned over and turned to the chasing side.

This time this is a demon

The situation was reversed, the crow was surprised, and the chasing goshawks desperately escaped.

The speed at which the crows fly was not the opponent of the goshawk, and the young goshawk felt like "It's not fun to chase after him!"

Perhaps the crow's speed was too slow and uninteresting, the goshawk soon stopped chasing.

It's persistent!

On the telephone pole with the moon on the side, the crow came again as he waited for his father to bring food, saying "I'm hungry" and "Is my father still?"

The goshawk once sent his eyes to the crow when the crow came again, but he didn't try to escape and ignored the cancer.

The crow was saying something, but there were no other crows around,

He was lonely and realized that he couldn't match the goshawk, or he immediately flew away.

The approach to the crows seems to have given the young goshawks another confidence.

The three Goshawk brothers are crows' persistent and obsessive.

From now on, he will gradually learn the character of the crow, who will be his lifelong rival.

The young goshawks may also be aware that this crow will play a major role in their future lives.

The eldest son looked at the crow from behind and said, "It's ugly!

It's not fun to chase after the crow, the eldest son with a small body.

He chased the rear view of a lazy crow desperately fleeing, gliding leisurely.

The appearance of the eldest son, who does not attack the rear view of such a fleeing crow and observes it carefully, seems to have learned a lot about the flight dynamics of the enemy.

The eldest son of the goshawk

He seems to be learning various basic flight courses such as flight characteristics of bird types, flight habits, how to dodge enemies, etc. without wasting even at such a moment.

He may also know that he will be the king of hunting in the future.

The eldest son, who is also interested in insects, seems to have an interest in everything.

This eldest son seems to have a fairly high IQ. He will surely become a good hunter and reflect his descendants.

How about the sisters?

The eldest daughter, Crow, who already wore the style of a king, was also overwhelmed by its power.

Speaking of her eldest daughter, she desperately chases the crow, trying to hit the crow anyway.

"I won't forgive those who interfere with our lives!" "I'll give you a blow!"

Even if she lost to her big eldest daughter, her brothers, by chasing her, she could easily beat her crow.

The blow emitted from her body is exceptionally destructive due to her large body.

Crows wouldn't be free if she had a blow from her sister.

She desperately escaped so that the crow would not be damaged by any more wings.

Goshawk chicks seem to think that crows are not a big deal at this stage.

However, at this time, there is no way to know the true fear of crows that they may come together to attack in groups.

Through the crows, the young goshawks who gained confidence and wisdom, and one step closer to adults.
