"The story of a goshawk, a bird of prey that has advanced into the city Tokyo Japan"
This blog introduces the life of a goshawk, a wild drama that unfolded in front of the caretaker in an urban park in Tokyo from July 2017 to December 2018.
A young bird that has begun to show confident flapping
■
Almost a month has passed since the first flight.
It's early August now.
At the beginning of last month, three young birds that barely flew when they fled, now show a confident flight.
Father birds also rarely bring prey these days, probably because their children have grown up enough and are relieved.
The father bird may have seen that the children grew up strong enough.
It seems that the children are trying to hunt themselves, and even going out of this Otaka forest to see the wide world.
The three kids are now confident and seem to have nothing to fear.
Sisters are still often together
The three brothers are always good friends, except for fighting for food.
In particular, the two sisters are often together even in August.
Even though they were fighting for food, they did not harm each other.
They shouted out loud, "Give me your prey!", Or threatened loudly across the neighborhood.
A father bird that has almost disappeared now.
When the father bird almost disappears around here.
This time crows came in groups.
The crow seems to be terribly afraid of this goshawk's father bird.
I think I remember being smashed before.
The father bird now rarely returns to the Otaka Forest.
A crow that is far inferior to a goshawk in flight ability,
It is a crow that even a young bird can easily get rid of if it is one.
The crows have recently come in groups.
Goshawks, who have an advantage in flight ability, are not accumulated when they come in large numbers.
When I stopped at the antenna and waited for my father's bird, crows gathered.
A father bird who waits but does not come back.
"Where have you gone?"
We are very hungry.
A lot of crows approached me and I couldn't stay on the antenna.
At first, a young bird who thought that one of the crows came to play to chase after him.
Even if I chased and played with them, the number of crows that flew slowly and couldn't be the opponent, and when I looked silently, the number gradually increased to two and three.
This time, the situation seems different.
Apparently it's trying to get us out of this place.
"Are we so hated?"
Young birds that have never appeared in society even though their bodies have grown strong.
There is no way to know what they (goshawks) think of the birds around them.
Three years ago, this place was a crow paradise, a crow forest where several households of crows were breeding.
The crows should always dream of such a crow forest returning again.
Stay away from the noisy crows and play with your brothers
Brothers who do not know such a thing in the rainy season and play with each other.
Even so, "Dad will not come back!"
Even if I try to hunt, it's still awkward and it's hard to catch prey.
I still can't do it without my dad bringing me prey.
The dad rarely comes back lately.
The eldest son, as usual, flies around the forest alone,
The eldest son is usually alone.
He isn't the only one hanging out, he's deeply interested in everything and observes it carefully.
People walking down the street, birds and birds flying over the river, insects.
In the near future, he seems to be self-taught to become a good father in order to become a good hunter.
However, I haven't been able to hunt yet, and I'm hungry with my sisters.
It seems that the young birds are starting to look for where their dad went, perhaps because they thought it wouldn't be clear just by waiting.
Young birds who have left the forest of Otaka and have come to go somewhere.
However, it seems that he hasn't gone that far because he will be back in the evening.
When I come back to the Otaka Forest in the evening, it looks like I'm not so hungry.
Perhaps the father I met on the go is getting prey.
If so, is the goshawk's dad trying to teach his children the outside world?
He still returns to the forest to sleep at night, but it seems that the day when the three brothers leave the forest is just around the corner.
